2023 Texas States Disc Golf Championships

2023 Innova Open at the 28th Annual Texas State Disc Golf Championships

Texas States is On! The Innova Open at the 28th Annual Texas State Disc Golf Championship is our final stop on the Texas swing for the PDGA and if it’s anything like the last two Texas disc golf tournaments, it promises a ton of entertainment. Let’s see who will be in the running for the PDGA Silver Series belt this weekend!

Location – Brock Park: Houston, Texas

Date – Friday, 3/24 through Sunday, 3/26

Weather Conditions – The weather conditions at the Innova Open Texas State Championships promise to be anything from normal. Friday poses thunderstorms nearly all day with approximately .15 inches of rain for the disc golf tournament. Saturday will be 86 degrees and sunny while Championship Sunday looks to offer PM thunderstorms but a fair 76 degree Texas day.

Course – Brock Park is a new course for the PDGA, offering extensive distance as well as OB everywhere. Players will have to maintain a high caliber of consistent power disc golf with control and circle two putting if they want to win.

Previous 5 Winners

  • 2018 – Anthony AP Perkins
  • 2019 – Ricky Wysocki
  • 2020 – Bradley Williams
  • 2021/2022 – Ricky Wysocki

Players

Gannon Buhr – Gannon should be everyone’s obvious choice to win the Innova Open in Texas this year. After winning the Elite Open in Austin last week, Gannon will continue to push the limits on what young players can do. Perhaps one more huge tour win could bolster his new sponsorship contract.

Anthony Barela – The highest rated player this week (1042 player rating) AB will have to shake off a 51st finish at the Open at Austin. Barela did not play in Texas last year for this disc golf tournament.

Calvin Heimburg – Your current tour points leader and 2022 2nd runner up in points, Heimburg has looked both clean and consistent this season. With a win notched at LVC already, Calvin has podiumed at all three elite series events he’s played. While his mix of Innova Destroyer, Millennium Draco, Innova Eagle alongside the occasional Roc and Rhyno seem unstoppable, lets see if Vinny can notch another solid disc golf tournament performance this weekend at the Innova Open.

Brodie Smith – Seemingly always a work in progress, Brodie hails from Texas and might feel just at home at Brock Park. While not an impact player this year, Brodie is always on the fence of opportunity when it comes to his tournament performance. With zero, Top 20 finishes this season, can Brodie turn the heat up on his young disc golf season?

Bradley Williams – Last years Preserve champion, Williams is a strong disc golfer and another Texas native. His game relies on cerebral line calculations, touch and a cool demeanor. Can he pull together the win this week? With an injured hand causing him a DNH at last weeks Open at Austin, Bradley Williams will need a lot behind him to win this tournament.

Isaac Robinson – Aside from bagging 4th at the Memorial Championships, Robinson has been anything but exciting to watch this year. His best finish was 25th at the Open at Austin and his season has looked nothing like his previous “DGPT Rookie of the Year” season last year. Is this the disc golf tournament he turns it around?
